"Sugar tax" was imposed in Britain

In Great Britain so-called "Sugar tax" was implemented and producers of soft beverages with high sugar content must adhere to it.

That was the way British authorities want to reduce production of sparkling beverages which lead to obesity first of all among children.

The tax will be charged from soft drinks which contain more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters. In case the drink contains more than 8% of sugar, the amount of tax will be raised. At the same time drinks with high content of milk which are necessary for healthy diet will not be charged. Collected money is planned to be spent for programs of physical activity promotion and balanced children dietary at schools.

According to the Ministry of Finance of Great Britain after specified initiative was announced in 2016, more than half of producers of beverages reduced sugar content level in their drinks. The total volume of the reduced sugar in drinks corresponds to 45 million kilograms a year, was counted in department.

"Producers which do not accept the new tendency will pay tax which cumulative amount will be up to 240 million pounds annually" — financial department reported.
