FAO and UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program) predict fast extinction of bees and warn about potential damage to world food program connected with reduction of their number.

Major food crops in the world depend on entomophilies (bees, butterflies and bugs) and also birds and bats. According to FAO specialists, today 35% of invertebrate pollinators, in particular, bees and butterflies and about 17% of vertebral pollinators, for example, bats are under the threat of disappearance.

Scientists connect extinction of these insects with many factors, however most often reasons are use of pesticides and global warming. FAO recommends stop using pesticides in agriculture as in the future these substances can lead to poisoning of  beehives and contaminate nectar and pollen.

In 2017 the UN approved World Bee Day. The holiday is celebrated on May 20.On this day Anton Jansa, the pioneer of beekeeping, was born.
