European Parliament suggests to increase the budget for national beekeeping programs by 50% and to create a special support system for beekeepers within EU agricultural policy after 2020.
Honey which is imported to EU countries has to conform with high standards. For this purpose, according to European Parliament, it is necessary to develop effective procedures of laboratory researches and to strengthen requirements of production tracking.
In the resolution it is noted that "76% of food production in Europe is based on pollination and therefore bees are necessary for food-security".
The EU takes the second place in honey production in the world. China is the leader. Romania, Spain and Hungary , Germany, Italy, Greece and Poland were the main producers of honey in the EU in 2016,agroxxi.ru reports.
