European Commission next year plans to permit to use protein from insects in poultry fodder. It is possible that fodder producers will be able to add insects even into pigs fodder,EU Health and Safety Commissioner Vitenis Andryukaytis reported.
Speaking at the first international conference about insects utilization for forage and food production, Vitenis Andryukaytis noted that new types of protein are necessary for agricultural industry. However before new protein resources can be used, it is necessary to approve legal regulations of this question and to resolve some technical issues.
Permission to add insects into poultry fodder is a logical step after another permission accepted in July, 2017. Then in fish fodder it was permitted to use protein of three types: from crickets, from two types of flour worms and from two types of flies.
