6 thousand pigs are liquidated in Latvia

According to the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service African swine fever (ASF) was registered at the pig farm Latgales Bekons JSC in the Vishkski district of the Daugavpils region.

An epidemiological investigation is being conducted at the moment to find out how the virus got to the farm. About 6 thousand pigs will be liquidated.

A protective zone is established within a radius of 3 kilometers, a controlled zone is established within a radius of 10 kilometers. Compliance with biosafety measures, as well as movement of animals and products of animal origin, will be carefully monitored on farms.
