More than 2 thousand German doctors addressed an open letter to the chancellor Angela Merkel with a request to introduce "sugar tax" in Germany. Many health care organizations like The German Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and German Diabetes Society, for example, have joined this request.

Specialists suggest to establish taxes and excises on products with high sugar content for sweet drinks, in particular. Also, according to physicians, it is necessary to forbid sweets advertizing that is addressed to children.

In April 2018, Foodwatch (a nongovernmental organization) provided 100-page Coca-Cola Report in Berlin which affirms that the world's largest producer of soft drinks bears the most responsibility for obesity epidemic, diabetes of the II type and other diseases connected with food.

We will remind that in the beginning of April in Great Britain and Ireland the tax on carbonated drinks which contain more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 ml was implemented. To avoid this tax, many producers have reduced sugar content in their products in advance. Similar measures are taken also in other European countries, for example, France and Portugal.
